Hello, I’m Angelos, a documentary filmmaker with a genuine passion for bringing powerful and impactful stories to life. I have been working on both commissioned and personal projects since 2006. In 2007, I founded Filmografik_DocRepublic, an independent film production company specialising in documentaries. In October 2022, I joined the European Southern Observatory, where I produce astronomy and science content to maximise the organisation’s audience impact. Through my films, I aim to raise awareness of important global issues and encourage critical thinking and dialogue. My debut feature-length documentary, The New Plastic Road, is a character-driven film revealing the gradual economic and social changes underway in remote, impoverished communities in the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region, in the Pamir Mountains east of Tajikistan. Acquired by the international sales agency Syndicado FS, the documentary was nominated for an award at Close Up: Edinburgh Docfest 2020 and was screened at Hotdocs 2021, the Thessaloniki Documentary Festival 2020 and the Sevastopol International Documentary Festival in Crimea, to name a few. I am a Fulbright and San Francisco Film Society Fellow and a 2020 Santa Fe Art Institute artist-in-residence. I have also participated in numerous workshops, including those at UNIONDOCS in New York and EURODOC in Europe. I am constantly developing my storytelling vision, trying to create powerful stories that are both intimate and inspiring. Far.Go.Bots is my second feature documentary. It tells the story of the first ever Romani children’s robotics team from Greece. The team overcomes the segregation of their community, travels to the USA, finishes school and changes its members’ life paths. This co-production with ERT (the Greek public broadcaster) and the Greek Film Centre was selected for the main programme at the 2022 Thessaloniki Documentary Festival.
